ACHEH TIMES [tax-exempt/code 501(c)(3); ID # 59-3807700] is asking
for your ‘financial support’ for development and maintenance of its
operations which will have two locations: Washington DC and Acheh,
Sumatra, Indonesia. These two locations will serve as headquarters
for the TIMES, a comprehensive alternative medium on Acheh and other
regions of Indonesia. Programs of the ACHEH TIMES project include:
- Renting office space and expanding board membership;
- Expanding Data base, Web content and Print distribution;
- Research and Development. Purchasing articles/analysis in-depths
from independent writers in addition to news and photos from
agencies such as AFP, AP, and Reuters;
- Educational Grants. Acheh Times funds the TOEFL program (Test of
English as a Foreign Language) for High School Students whose
permanent residence is in Acheh.
Acheh, the epicenter of the tsunami of December 26, 2004, has
become a center of world focus. With the tsunami, thirty years of
war, and a complex society, the Acheneese landscape—its distinct
lifestyle and politics within Indonesia—has created many questions.
Will democracy flourish, will there be freedom for minority
viewpoints, can peace take hold, and will the greater Indonesian
economy flourish or stall?
Instead of trying to predict what the future holds, it is better to
create it! The ACHEH TIMES seeks to promote freedom of opinion and
expression, including the freedom to seek, receive, and impart
information and ideas through any medium, regardless of frontiers.
For educators, students and policy makers, the ACHEH TIMES
indubitably is an indispensable resource for research. The ACHEH
TIMES is also a source of inspiration toward positive and productive
life-styles. Above all, it is meant to inform, educate and provide a
forum for civil opinion and understanding.
